York Alpine Club was founded in 1981, and exists for the encouragement of all kinds of mountain activities, including walking, climbing, skiing and biking.
We meet on Thursday evenings at Brigantes Bar, 114 Micklegate, York (map) from 9.30 p.m. onwards.
The club is very friendly and always welcomes new members, whatever your level of experience.
The Club's calendar of activities includes:
- Weekend meets, staying in huts or camping
- Sunday walks
- Mid-week evening and weekend climbing, on local crags in the summer and on climbing walls during the winter
In addition, groups of members take part in many other outdoor pursuits, including mountain biking, road biking, orienteering, and caving.
We also have regular social events.
York Alpine Club is affiliated to the BMC.
BMC Participation Statement. The BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
